LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Does Kentucky support marijuana?

That’s the question the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky sought to answer, and the results of this particular poll show a majority of resident favor its use.

The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky describes itself as a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization funded by an endowment with a mission to make Kentuckians healthier.

The poll, jointly sponsored with Interact for Health, was conducted in 2019. A random sample of 1,559 adults from throughout Kentucky was interviewed by telephone. The results were released on Wednesday. Click here to see a copy of the report.

Participants were asked several questions about marijuana, including whether they favor or oppose legalization and their knowledge of regular use.

The poll found that 9 in 10 Kentucky adults are in favor of allowing the purchase and use of marijuana for medical purposes if a doctor recommends it. That 90 percent should be compared to the 78 percent in 2012, which is the last time that question was asked.

The poll also found that 6 in 10 adults they questioned said they supported marijuana and its use under any circumstance.
